California alternative rock band, CAKE, is comprised of lead singer John McCrea, trumpeter Vince DiFiore, guitarist Xan McCurdy, bassist Gabe Nelson and drummer Paulo Baldi. The band is noted for McCrea's sarcastic lyrics and deadpan voice, DiFiore's trumpet parts and a wide range of musical influences, including country, rock, funk, mariachi, Iranian folk and hip-hop. CAKE released five hit albums between 1994-2004.
After forming its own label, Upbeat Records, the band released Showroom of Compassion earlier this year, which became its first album to debut at the top of the Billboard charts.
